Preventative Maintenance For Your Appliances

Preventative Maintenance For Your Appliances

Instead of waiting for your appliance to start showing problems, it is better and cheaper to do preventative maintenance regularly. Preventive maintenance can save you a lot of money on washing machine spares, vacuum cleaner spares, cooker hood spares, fridge parts, and more.

With That in Mind, We Are Going to Share Some Preventive Maintenance Tips That Could Save You Time and Money:

Humidifier- check the filter because it could be clogged by dust. If the build-up is bad enough, the efficiency will be very low. The humidifier will struggle to reach the target humidity level inside your room. Make sure that you change the filter every six months. For a reservoir-type humidifier, you need to make sure that the float assembly is regularly cleaned, so it won’t overfill. For flow-through humidifier, the drain should be checked to maintain water flow.

Microwave- clean the inside of the microwave each week or clean immediately if there are spills. Spills and crumbs can still absorb the microwave energy, potentially causing burns and other issues to your microwave. Just use a damp rag to wipe up any food matter or spills, followed by paper towel to make it dry. Voltage spikes can damage your microwave, so make sure that it’s protected by surge protector.

Dryer- fire and dryer failures can happen if there’s lint build-up. Other than being a safety hazard, lint build-up may cause the reduction of the dryer and drying time will increase noticeably. Check the vent of your dryer and if it’s made of vinyl, replace it with aluminium, which is not flammable.

Washer- every six months, you should check the fill hoses. If there are cracks, it means that the hose is old, and its material is beginning to break down. If there are bumps and blisters, they may cause ruptures of the inner lining. If the fitting starts to corrode, it will be difficult to remove the hose from the faucet. The lifespan of the hose is usually between three and five years. If your washer bounces around, make sure that it’s on a level surface and avoid overloading washer to prevent any strain on the washer.

Dishwasher- if you notice that your dishes are not clean or that you need to repeat the wash cycle frequently, there could be too little water that goes into the appliance. Check the water inlet valve to make sure that it isn’t worn or damaged. If you haven’t used the dishwasher for ten days or more, use dishwasher liquid to clean the inside to prevent bad odours and the development of mould.
